Instructions for 3/30/15

Hi! I hope you are having a wonderful day. Today we're getting started with our art project. You are to pick a piece of art, specifically a painting or drawing (if you want to do a sculpture, run it by me, I would be willing to explore that option) that you will replicate, OR that you will report on. If you're the "reporter" then you need to team up with someone in the class because the reporting needs to go along with a piece of art that's being replicated--here's the vision: Amy does a 3ftx3ft replica of "Dos Sapos" by Francisco Toledo and Caleb does a biography of Toledo, what others have said about the art piece, and what he thinks on a nice piece of paper. Amy posts her art on the wall, Caleb posts his report underneath it, then a few days later we have cookies and punch dressed up in nice clothes to admire the work:) Please do the following steps to get credit for today:

1. Go to this Google Doc if you need ideas for artists. Copy their name and then paste it into a search like "Art by Francisco Toledo".

2. Once you've found the art piece you want to do, put the necessary information into the Google Spreadsheet following my example. I have labeled the link "Google Spreadsheet to Enter Information" and it's right below this text:

Google Spreadsheet to Enter Information

3. When you have done this start planning out your art piece or researching the artist and piece of art. The more you get done today, the less you have to do next week and over Spring Break!

Country Event Project: (1/14/15)

  1. Find 1 (one, just one) partner. This is a 2-person project/assignment.
  2. When you have created your partnership, come see Señor Scoville for your country assignment and your colored piece of beautiful paper goodness!
  3. At this point you should have a partner and a country assigned to you. Find a place to sit so you can be next to your partner.
  4. You are going to tell me about an event that happened in the past using the PRETERIT[E]tense. Keep it simple. Rubrics are located around the room. 4 on the main whiteboard, 2 on the secondary whiteboard, and 2 on the back bulletin board.
  5. You may now use your phones TO RESEARCH AN AWESOME/HORRIBLE/SIGNIFICANT EVENT in your assigned country’s history. Choose a significant event and read about it. Make sure you have a basic idea for what happened.
  6. On that piece of paper I gave you (that you will be turning in for credit) write your name, your partner’s name, your assigned country and your country’s significant event.
  7. On that same piece of paper, brainstorm how you will tell this event’s story. Split the paper in half and on one side brainstorm all the verbs you’ll need to use, on the other side brainstorm all the other stuff. It can be in English and/or Spanish. Write both words you know (in Spanish) and words you don’t know (in English.) Leave space for translation. In order to get full credit for today you must turn this paper in with AT LEAST 20 verbs (in the infinitive form) and 40 other words necessary to tell the story. You may definitely have more.
  8. Using phones and dictionaries find the word in Spanish for all the verbs and words. Write the Spanish word next to the English word on the paper.
  9. Any extra time you have should be used in crafting your story. ¡Buena suerte!

  1. Term Project - For B6 Due Tuesday, January 6th

1. Choose a group of 4
2. Choose a country
3. Find a traditional breakfast, lunch and dinner from that country to describe/put on your group's slideshow. Pick one dish per meal even though there will be several options to choose from. You will NOT be presenting. I figured that you would prefer a slideshow to a poster, but if you REALLY want to do a poster, you may:)
4. Find a recipe for ONE of the dishes/meals you described, and translate it to Spanish (We will go over this on Wednesday 12/17...find your recipe and start translating it before class on Wednesday so you will be ready.)
5. Use "Mi Plato" for one of the meals – suggest how to make it healthier if it is unhealthy (We will go over this on Wednesday as well so don't worry about it today/Monday.)
6. Make a Google Slideshow (share it with me: calebscoville@alpinedistrict.org) with pictures of the foods from each meal and short description, the recipe for the ONE meal you chose, and a My Plate diagram of the one meal.
You will be graded on:
  1. Completion of the required items (3 meals, 1 recipe, 1 My Plate)
  2. Correct spelling (you can ask me for help after you have searched, if you still need help)
  3. Correct grammar
  4. Neatness!

TODAY’S (12/17 B6) REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Have group and country chosen
  2. Have three meals chosen, bookmarked, entered on the Google Spreadsheet (see #4)
  3. Have assignments for each group member over the next few days.
  4. Go to your class's Google Spreadsheet and enter what specific meals you'll do. See the spreadsheet for an example of what to enter.
  5. If you finish 1-4 and you still have time, proceed to the next section below.

What you need to do by the end of the class period today (12/19/14 Friday):

1. Take the Dairy through Fish Quiz on your own and without help. Do your best. I love you.

2. Download and be familiar with the rubric for the term project found directly below:

3. Click on the following link for "Mi Plato": http://www.choosemyplate.gov/images/MiPlatoGREEN-483w.png and familiarize yourself with "Mi Plato"

4. View my example project Comida de Paraguay

5. Go to your class's Google Spreadsheet and let me know that you completed steps 1-4 for today.

6. Continue working on your project. Share it with me and have it finished BEFORE class next time.
